XML, Extensible Markup Language, is a formatting method used to share data between computers. Data stored in XML format can be imported directly into most database software packages spreadsheets and, word documents. XML stores data in a structured manner similar to how most databases store data, that is records and fields. Each XML record consists of a set of fields. Unlike Comma Separated Value (CSV) and JSON data files, an XML data file is much easier for humans to read. The fields in an XML record all have a name tag, effectively the name of the column in a table that is used to associate the data in the field with an information category..

The XML Basics design, below, a high-resolution graphic created in Adobe Illustrator, is effectively an XML course on a poster. It is available in print through RedBubble as a poster, a desk mat, a mousepad, and decal. Visit the XMLMatrix Redbubble Store Front. to get a closer look.
