There are over 100 companies in the semiconductor cryptography ecosystem. This includes chip companies that fabricate, design and license cryptography technology. Primarily cryptographic chip technology comes packaged as standard integrated circuits and soft and hard intellectual property cores. ASICs, system-on-a-chip, chiplets and modules also feature advanced cryptographic chip technology. Additionally, is software algorithms and firmware designed for cryptographic chips. Finally, there are electronic design automation companies that have platforms and software development kits to create cyrptographic chips and modules with. Still at the core of cryptographic chip technology are standard cryptographic chips for general purpose and specific applications. As well, there are standard microcontroller and microprocessor chips that incorporate encryption and decryption technology within them.

Many chip design companies and Integrated device Manufacturers (IDMs) license their cryptographic technology from Intellectual Property (IP) core companies. Many system companies develop their own cryptographic application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and incorporate the designs into currency miner systems (bitcoin and Ethereum) that they in turn sell on the open market
